Steve Featherstone (Operations Manager for the Environmental Care Department of Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council.).

13 of us worked towards the (Level 2) qualification which took in the region of 6 half days to complete.

The best thing was that we worked as a team throughout, examining real life work issues with particular regard to reducing waste, non productive time etc.

The important thing was that it gave us time out from the office to actually stop and question why we do things the way we do and indeed how perhaps we could do them.

…it provided a mental gymnasium that we can now take on and bring about practical outcomes.

Ruth Rossett (Training and Development Manager, CooperVision Manufacturing Ltd)

We have been working with Dave Evans (BILM) for the past 2 years as our primary trainer for our BITs training program.

In this time we have utilised Dave’s expertise to provide us with the means to enhance the knowledge and skills of over 300 employees across our manufacturing and operations in the UK.

The flexibility and tailoring of the Level 2 NVQ BITs program has enabled us to:

  • gain nationally recognised qualifications on site and on shift with minimum disruption to our operation
  • tangible  benefits to both our bottom line and employee motivation and engagement.

I would not hesitate to recommend (BILM) as a training provider.

Barry Kinchington (CooperVision)

I found the (BITs Level 2) course stimulating and beneficial.  Many of the components will be useful for the everyday tasks that are required as part of my job.

In particular I found 5s element useful; I have been, in the past, a sceptic regarding 5s.

I am now a disciple and can see the benefits from operating the system and the disciplines within.

Also of interest was the element on problem solving.  Much of this can be transferred to the everyday tasks performed in the stores.

Thank you for the opportunity to attend this course.

Phil Moy Works Director ( Kondor Bathroom Pods Ltd )

The benefits of the training can already be seen in improvements with the use of Kanban Systems ( Direct Line Flow to Lines, Kitting Bins), Manufacturing Layout Design, Standard Operating Procedures, Flow Process Analysis & Mapping, Shadow Boards & Idea Generation already being implemented and added to on an ongoing basis. Plans to include further techniques taken from the training are currently being made for implementation during 2010 and beyond.

The training was undertaken in a highly professional manner by the BILM Trainer/Assesor Brian Manship and the material was provided and presented in an efficient and clearly undestood way, for all participants, with all learnings recorded in a folder for each individual.

The training provided an excellent vehicle for both individual and team activities, with information contained within the folders available for use both now and in the future.

As a forward thinking manufacturing business and with a clear driver towards ongoing continuous improvement, we would like to offer our thanks to BIM Ltd for their commitment to this excellent training oportunity that was afforded us and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

David Bellmont  William Sinclair Horticulture

As the manager of the William Sinclair’s manufacturing base in Carlisle I thought it very important to look at better ways of working. I was approached by BILM Ltd. to complete a training course in Lean Manufacturing via the Business Improvement Techniques NVQ level 2. Nineteen staff and I embarked upon this initiative, which took approximately twenty weeks.

Prior to the training I had knowledge of the lean Process and Procedures principles and was very keen to take part in the training which consisted of 4 sessions over a 20 hour period covering Kaizen for Lean, Team Working, 5S of Workplace Organisation and Problem Solving as well as a section on Health & Safety which enhanced out work ethic.

A number of site visits followed allowing BILM Ltd’s training team a chance to work on an individual basis with the work force, looking at ways to put improvement suggestions into place. This then gave us a benchmark to move forward with our improvement strategy and also produce evidence towards the NVQ by way of observations in the working environment.

BILM Ltd’s trainer and assessor’s were always on hand to help if we had any problems or issues with our training and implementation of lean with all these points in mind I would have no hesitation in recommending BILM Ltd to anyone thinking of undertaking the Business Improvement Training.

As a result of this training I am in the process of using some of the tools and techniques to improve our operations within the manufacturing plant. Thus reducing waste and non-productive time and concentrating on Value adding in the processes which in turn will eliminate the Non Value adding activities within our manufacturing plant thus making an improvement to our bottom line.
